Changes in Two Eeg Rhythms during Mental Activity.

چکیده
2 sets of tasks—mental addition tasks and concept tasks—were given to 12 Ss and the effects of these tasks on 2 EEG rhythms—kappa and alpha—observed. On the mental addition tasks the difficulty of the task was shown to increase the output of kappa significantly but not the output of alpha. On the concept task, however, the difficulty of the task was shown to depress the output of alpha significantly. The results for kappa, although highly consistent for each individual, did not show any consistent pattern from one individual to another. It is suggested that the effects of mental tasks on kappa and alpha are specific to the sense modality involved in the task.

Changes of the brain’s bioelectrical activity in cognition, consciousness, and some mental disorders
Background: An electroencephalogram (EEG) is an accepted method in neurophysiology with a wide application. Different types of brain rhythms indicate that simultaneous activity of the brain cortex neurons depend on the person’s mental state. Method: we have focus on reviewing the existing literature pertaining to changes of the brain’s bioelectrical activity that recorded from the ...
متن کاملEEG-informed fMRI analysis during a hand grip task: estimating the relationship between EEG rhythms and the BOLD signal
In the last decade, an increasing interest has arisen in investigating the relationship between the electrophysiological and hemodynamic measurements of brain activity, such as EEG and (BOLD) fMRI. In particular, changes in BOLD have been shown to be associated with changes in the spectral profile of neural activity, rather than with absolute power. Concurrently, recent findings showed that dif...

Living organisms have multiple biological rhythms. Some of these rhythms are endogenous and some are under the influence of light and dati cydes during 24-hours. Nowadays periodic changes in melatonin secretion from pineal gland and changes in N-acetyl transferase (NAT) activity which influence the melatonin secretion rate has been acknowledged as a basic rhythm. In this study NAT activity in p...
متن کاملThe Effects of Fifa 2015 Computer Games on Changes in Cognitive, Hormonal and Brain Waves Functions of Young Men Volunteers
Introduction: Computer games have attracted remarkable attentions in general publics with different cultures and their effects are subject of research by cognitive neuroscientists. In the present study, possible effects of the game Fifa 2015 on cognitive performance, hormonal levels, and electroencephalographic (EEG) signals were evaluated in young male volunteers. Methods: Thirty two subj...
متن کاملChemical ablation of the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus and its effect on electroencephalographic tracings and pain threshold in the tail flick test
The present study was carried out to explore the possible involvement of the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus in the inhibitory descending pain control system associated with the tail flick test and EEG recordings. Adult male (NMRI) albino rats weighing 200 ± 20 g were used. Rats were divided into three groups: experimental, sham and control. The arcuate nucleus was destroyed unilaterally ...
